OLD SCHOOL LOVE: I'M FLIPPED
Ten years have passed since this movie was shown in cinema. But since it's August 2020, I've got to watch it in a site hahaha, sorry for that. So I watched this because my friend, Leona (let's drop her name here lol), recommended it to me. It took me quite some time to finally watch it. So without further ado, here's my review in this old-school-love story of Bryce Loski and Juli Baker.
For some good reason, Flipped, which is based on a novel by Wendelin Van Draanen, is a masterpiece of its own. Every word there will give a shot through your heart. It will remind you of a childhood love, or if not, some sort of love story to tell. But that's just not about that as it will give you a deeper meaning of how love looks like. This couple of kid who have conflicting feelings with each other, in a 1957 to 1963 setting, will surely give you a vibe of a love of a lifetime.
1. "Every once in a while, you find someone who's iridescent. And when you do, nothing will ever compare."
When words of wisdom came from the elders, who won't take it? The way Chet said this is such an eargasm. It only says that we must find someone who stands out in a crowd, and when you do, nothing will ever compare. I hope we find that iridescent person *crossfingers
2. Sometimes we meet someone in the most unexpected time.
Some of us have that childhood love, but whatever form of love it is, when it came, it'll surely sweep you off your feet.
3. Silence has never been beautiful.
People say, "silence means yes" but whatever it is, silence really connects us in a way that words never could. It really does. Sometimes, the answer came from it.
4.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
There's nothing more beautiful than someone seeing you as a masterpiece. I said what I said.
5. Do not let others influence your beliefs, ideals and opinions, be it your friends or family. You gotta stand with what you believe for, dude or you'll regret it later.
I'm proud how Bryce stands with what he believes for. He likes Juli Baker, and that's it. Nothing less, nothing more. It's his own will, no one could stop him for that, not even. a. single. opinion. periodt. We all needed this kind of person, where art thou?
6. “It's easy to look back and see it, and it's easy to give the advice. But the sad fact is, most people don't look beneath the surface until it's too late.”
We only regret the things when it's too late already. It's a very sad fact. Regrets everywhere.
7. “It's about honesty. Sometimes a little discomfort in the beginning can save a whole lot of pain down the road.”
At least we know, so the next time around, we won't repeat the same mistake. Pain, pain. Pain is painful.
8. “A painting is more than the sum of its parts.”
It only means that be more than what people expect you to be. A painting may have a lot meaning but its different is beautiful. You get it?
9. We might bump with someone who will be obsessed with us that they will notice everything about us, even the smell of our hair. It's creepy tho lol.
It sounds creepy but maybe we knew someone in our life who may like everything about us, even the littlest things. O.M.G. Hahaha! Cringe.
10. We all have that one friend who will support us hahaha!
Tag that friend who supports us obsessing over our ultimate crush and sometimes adds more story, oh high hopes HAHAHAHA! You know.
11. Sorry is never enough.
You know what happened here? So Juli found out that Bryce threw all the eggs she gave to him. Juli have a chicken farm in her backyard so she decided to give some to Bryce's family only to be wasted because of some funny Salmonella story. So what happened? Juli was so hurt that she didn't hold back her feelings and lose all that respect she had for Bryce. The end na ba? The thing is, if we truly feel sorry, we should mean it. Sorry is never enough. Be a man, coward.
12. “To be held above the earth and be brushed by the wind," she said,"it's like your heart has been kissed by beauty.”
What is essential is invisible to the eye. There are things that only us could appreciate. But still continue doing so. At least there's one person who believes in us, and that's our self. In this movie, Juli's appreciation for the Sycamore tree is really something. People won't understand how special this tree to her, not even Bryce not until he realized it, ohh.
13. "I had flipped."
When you finally realized that you have feelings for someone, you can't help it especially when you don't have enough courage to say so. Awww, Bryce.
14. “And since you know what a tree-climbing weenie I am, I think it's pretty clear that I'm willing to do anything to get her to talk to me. Man, I'll dive after her into a chicken coop full of poop if that's what it takes. I'll ride my bike all the stinkin' way to school for the rest of eternity if it means being with her”
In the end, Bryce did his best to finally get in touch with Juli again. He planted a Sycamore tree in front of Juli's house and it made Juli to realize that Bryce is truly sorry, we all know how Juli loved the Sycamore tree. This only signifies the beginning of a strong and long-lasting friendship for them.
This story will never gets old. It doesn't matter how old you are. If you want some inspo, maybe you should try watching this. The story is brilliant on its own. I am Flipped. I have learned a lot watching this.
